Daisies for Sue

Finished my 2nd collage a few days ago. This time it's Daisies for Sue. I use watercolor pencils, alcohol ink and pages from vintage books to create my flowers. Enjoy!

Barns

Been on a kick with Pintrest these days. I noticed that Barns from across the world are pinned by many but pictures of a unique style of barn was missing. Russian Mennonites when they fled various situations (1870s to mid 1900s) brought with them the beauty known as the House Barn. I remember these from my childhood in Saskatchewan and now I work at a great museum that strives to preserve the Russian Mennonite history in Manitoba. Such a fun job and I get to learn about my family's ancestry!

the small building to the right of the house is the summer kitchen where all the baking, canning etc would happen, to keep the house temperature comfortable.

I'm a Scrounger!

Romantic Skate Winter 2011
flowers out of sheet music

Thrift Store Angel, doilies, buttons, skates, frame, greenery and lace!

Who knew scavenging could be beautiful?
Thrifted tub (35cents), lace star (25 cents), balls (free), snowflake string ($1), berries ($2), greenery (50cents), red tree ($3 at an after christmas sale years ago), desk ($5), map of NYC (25cents), hurricane lantern (free picked at a bring-your-junk-to-swap night), string of lights ($1) buttons (50cents a jar x 6 jars=$3), and the silver and crystal garland was a gift from a very dear friend!

My lamp shade was falling apart so I made a frame from corset boning (50 cents at Thrift Store), doilies (10cents @) and pages from a dictionary ($1). My apartment was so pretty this Christmas.

Covers

Final shot of my sketchbook. It goes into the mail tomorrow. What a journey! and it's only just begun!
